Remember how dating used to be? It involved people who primarily lived in the same city, or, at the very least; in the same state. You pretty much had to know the person first in order to woo them. Today, however, the stakes have changed. With a computer, an internet connection, a snazzy photo of yourself, and the best profile you can possibly create - you can find true love anywhere. Internet dating is the new craze in love; almost all singles have tried it at least once, and for others - well, let's just say they have so many profiles up, they just might end up dating themselves!
So, what's the attraction? Why are people paying good money to sign up with internet dating services and spending oodles of their time trying to find love online? It's a lot less intimidating for one. Think about it; you don't have to worry about finding that perfect comeback in a nanosecond, and you don't have to fuss with your hair endlessly (unless, of course, you're utilizing a digital camera in the process - and please, if you are, keep the details to yourself.)
Also, people are less anxious in a non one-on-one face to face circumstance. They have the ability to graze, so to speak, until they find someone they click with. Even then, it's up to them when the dating commences into the real world. Often, they feel more comfortable in sharing aspects of themselves via text rather than voice. People can form stronger bonds, faster, in Internet Land than in the Real World because of this breakdown of self barriers. It's an interesting phenomenon when it occurs; and it is happening on a daily basis - dating and love is everywhere you look on the internet.
The World Wide Web is--well, immense, which means you could meet that special someone in almost any internet hobby you have. You don't even have to be searching for love! Internet gaming, for example, has many couples who have met while in game and ended up walking down the aisle together. Specific interest websites, email loops, and message boards have also created winning dating combinations.
So yes, it is definitely possible to find true love while dating via the internet, however, don't forget - eventually that dating has to progress to real life. You're going to want to be honest about yourself from the beginning. Don't say you're 6'3" if you're 5'8" - your date WILL notice that discrepancy! Likewise, don't fib and say your interests match your dating partner's if they don't. It's a good bet if you tell her you LOVE opera; she's going to figure out you don't.
Dating via the internet opens up an entire new arena for finding that special someone. Have fun, be safe, be truthful; and who knows - you may just find your perfect other half.
